🦠 What is MMR?

MMR is a combination vaccine that protects against three viral infections:

  • Measles: Highly contagious respiratory infection
  • Mumps: Viral infection affecting salivary glands
  • Rubella: Also known as German measles

🔬 Measles Details

Symptoms:

  • High fever
  • Red rash starting on face

  • Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
  • Koplik's spots in mouth

Highly contagious: Can spread through the air and remain infectious for up to 2 hours.

Symptoms:

  • Loss of appetite

Complications: Can cause meningitis and inflammation of testicles or ovaries.

Symptoms:

  • Pink or light red rash

  • Joint pain
  • Headache

Pregnancy Risk: Can cause severe birth defects if contracted during pregnancy.

Unvaccinated individuals: Those who haven't received the MMR vaccine or are under-vaccinated.

Infants & young children: Particularly vulnerable to serious complications like pneumonia and encephalitis.

Pregnant women: Rubella during pregnancy can cause severe birth defects.
